MOTOR SPORT: Bingley’s Ian Hutchinson secured his place in the record books as his victory in a shortened Senior TT saw him become the first man ever to win five races in a week at the Isle of Man TT.

The Padgetts Honda rider (pictured) was involved in a tight battle with John McGuinness and Conor Cummins before they retired and crashed out, respectively, allowing Hutchinson to eventually triumph with a healthy 37-second margin of victory over Ryan Farquhar and Bruce Anstey.

Hutchinson said: “I’m never going to be one who says I’ve come here to win five races.

“But at the end of the day, I have come to try and win every race. Clive Padgett and the team have worked really hard to get the bikes how I want them.”

His fifth victory was greeted by rapturous applause and he said: “It was an absolute buzz to see and nice to be able to have a bit of time to take it it in and not push too hard.”

The race had earlier been red-flagged after an accident involving popular Lincolnshire rider Guy Martin.

Martin crashed at the Ballagarey section of the course with his Honda catching fire.

He was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed as having suffered a bruised lung and minor spinal fractures.
