Oakbank Table Tennis Club are celebrating the end of a terrific season of success.

They scooped medals at the British and English national championships as well as the National Cadet, West Yorkshire and Bradford Schools competitions.

And four members have qualified for this year’s English national championships on May 29 after impressing at the county trials.

Coach Hans Soova was proud of the progress that has been made by the club’s youngsters.

He said: “Members at Oakbank Club have pulled together and have worked very hard, paid attention to detail and found the will to improve skills and win.

“Our team of players, parents and coaches are reaping the rewards. Every player has shown improvement and it is great news for our coaches.”

England international Mary Fuller signed off her era as a junior with a superb season.

The 17-year-old from Stanbury, near Haworth, was selected for her country at three different age groups, underlining her potential.

She won two silver medals at the British Women’s and Juniors levels and another two silvers and a bronze at the English national junior championships.

Soova said: “Her dedication and determination as well as her good manners and positive attitude are an example for all to follow.”

Sarah Johnson, aged 11 from Oakworth, made big strides with her strong forehand top spin to win four gold medals, one at West Yorkshire level and three more in the Bradford schools under-13, under-15 and under-19 singles.

Ten-year-old William Nash, from Bingley, collected one gold and two silvers at the Bradford Schools championships in the under-13 doubles and under-11 and 13 singles.

Ffion Myers, aged ten, from Cross Roads in Keighley, picked up a good haul in her first full season of competitive table tennis with three silver medals in different contests.

Sam Whittaker, 12, won under-13 gold at the Bradford Schools event while 14-year-old Chris Wilson took under-15 silver.

And Oakbank’s under-15 team comprising of Nash, Whittaker and Sam and Tom West were surprise silver medal winners in the National Cadet League.

Oakbank also enjoyed a wonderful result from the recent Yorkshire regional trials.

Four players – Nash, Johnson, Myers and William Sorsey – qualified for the English under-11s, under-12s and under-13 national championships at the end of next month.
