Fourteen-year-old City of Bradford member James Dawson continued his medal-winning form when he competed at the Welsh National Age and Youth Championships held in Swansea.

Still in confident mood following his Yorkshire title successes, he opened his national qualifying time account with wins in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. His times of 1.11.97 and 2.35.96 gained him qualification for the National Championships in Sheffield later this summer.

His other Welsh titles and lifetime best times came in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley.

He also swam to a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke and eighth place in the 100m freestyle.

Niki Chatburn’s long journey to Swansea was made more than worthwhile when she claimed a bronze medal in the gruelling 1500m freestyle in 19.59.52.

City’s long distance success continued when 16-year-old Hannah Midgley swam a well-paced race to finish in third place in the 800m freestyle in a time of 10.16.52.

She then showed her versatility by claiming top ten finishes in the 200m and 400m individual medley, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.

Her times in the 100m freestyle, butterfly and 200m medley were all lifetime bests.
