Ilkley’s Kyle Brassington is targeting World Games glory next year after helping Great Britain clinch bronze medals in the BNP Paribas Universities’ Tennis Tournament in Poitiers, France.

The team had finished fifth the previous year but Brassington, Keith Meisner (Edinburgh) and Richard Irwin (Bournemouth) helped them rise two places in the four-day tournament.

Team manager James Andell said: “This is a high standard tournament and signals the start of our preparations for the 2011 World University Games to be held in Shenzhen, China.”

Britain defeated China on the opening day, then lost to eventual winners the United States before defeating Germany.

Brassington said: “This was a fantastic experience. I was very pleased with the team’s performance, and my own contribution, having lost only one out of my four matches. I now have my eye on the World Games in 2011.”
