VC Bradford’s Mark Murgatroyd was second in the Hartshead Moor Evening Circuit Race last week, and secured enough points to move up to second category rider.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Paul Hull, a PE teacher at Thornton Grammar School, bounced back from a crash in the Brighouse Criterium to finish the Hartshead Moor event.

Keighley’s Tom Barras heads to Wales this weekend for the prestigious Abergavenny International Festival of Cycling.

The Plowman Craven RT professional rider will compete in the Abergavenny Criterium on Friday before tackling the international Grand Prix on Sunday, which has attracted some of the best riders from across the world, including Welsh Tour de France ace Geraint Thomas.

Last weekend, Barras put in a strong performance in the sixth round of the Premier Calendar Series, the Beaumont Trophy in Northumberland.

But it was ultimately a frustrating day’s work as they failed to get a rider in the leading break, with team-mate Simon Gaywood their best finisher in sixth spot, while Barras finished in the bunch, 22 seconds behind race winner Rob Hayles of Halfords Bikehut.
