Local riders dominated the final round of the Yorkshire Points Series at Myrtle Park in Bingley.

Burley-in-Wharfedale's Mark Thwaites, now riding for Crosstrax through the winter instead of Kinesis UK, was first across the line at the end of the 19.8km event.

Thwaites clocked 59min 30sec while Keighley veteran Chris Young (Team Marie Curie) was second, 2min 12sec behind, and Robin Bradbury was another minute off the pace in third for Aire Valley Racing Team.

But fourth spot for James Sharp (York Cycleworks) gave him enough points to take an overall win in the series.

Other notable performance included Bradford Olympic RT duo Rob Thackray and Rob Watson, who were seventh and eighth respectively in the senior event.

Watson was also being first junior across the line to wrap up a convincing overall series win in that category.

In the youth race, Paul Young (Team Marie Curie) got the better of Keighley rival Tom Moses (SSC Cyclesport) for only the third time in this season's series, winning after Moses had mechanical problems.

But the 20 points won by Young was not enough to stop his rival taking the overall victory by just three points.

With a rider's best six results from eight rides counting, Moses has a perfect score of 120 and Young finished on 117, while Billy Harding came out on top in the under-12s race.

Riders had to play second fiddle to runners 24 hours earlier in the annual Cyclists versus Harriers event at Bingley, with the runners accumulating just 73 points to the riders 144.

Although cyclist Andy Peace won the event, he was one of just three such competitors in the top ten of the seven-mile event.

Pudsey and Bramley Harriers' Graham Pearce and Gareth Devine came second and third respectively.

Todmorden duo Andrew Wrench and John Wright were fourth and fifth, with Bingley Harriers Martin Peace - brother of the winner - sixth.
