Baildon B finally broke their Bradford Table Tennis League duck at the fifth attempt as they gained a 6-4 win at fellow Division Five strugglers Hermits H.

Defeats in the opening four matches, with only nine sets won, had made it a depressing start to the season for Baildon.

Peter Russell was their inspiration with three singles wins, with Howden Jewson and Ken Fletcher both adding one, before Russell and Jewson teamed up to clinch the decisive doubles.

Baildon A are having much better fortune in Division Four but, although they remain unbeaten, are becoming the league's draw specialists with four from their six matches to date.

The latest came against leaders Unity D, who lost their 100 per cent record despite Steve Worsman's three wins.

Unity needed to take the doubles to secure the 5-5 outcome after two victories each by Peter Warner and Rod Willey had given Baildon the edge.

Andrew Rawnsley continued his fine start to the season for Hermits B in Division Two.

Three more singles for Rawnsley in a 7-3 success against Yeadon Flyers lifted Hermits up to third place.
