Keighley cyclo-cross ace Chris Young helped Yorkshire take the Inter-Area Team Championship veterans crown in Leicestershire after linking up with Northallerton's Noel Clough.

Young, the former British champion and Yorkshire Points Series hopeful, put aside his domestic rivalry with Clough as they teamed up to devastating effect.

With solid support from third man Martin Eadon, who was sixth overall, Yorkshire won the veterans category by a huge 11 points.

This success made up for a disappointing display in the senior race, where Yorkshire could only finish sixth out of 18 teams taking part in the event at Misterton Hall, near Lutterworth.

Yorkshire earned a silver medal in the women's category, where Jess Roberts and Annie Simpson finished fifth and ninth respectively and Denise Shackleton completed the trio in 14th place.

West Midlands won easily with three riders in the top four, while Yorkshire held on to second place by just two points from the Eastern region.

There was also a close result in the youth competition, where Yorkshire were beaten to top spot by just two points.

In-form Keighley rider Tom Moses put in a superb performance to win the event against some of the best riders in the country, while Paul Young was edged into seventh spot and Oli Webster tenth.

But with all three of their counting riders in the top eight, London retained the title they won in Devon 12 months earlier.
