This year's Calder League got under way on Sunday and produced impressive catches of silver fish.

Mirfield's Martyn Highe topped the individual catches with an outstanding 30lbs 14oz net of dace on stick float.

Tony Earnshaw's 27lbs 4oz catch of chub and dace claimed second spot, followed by Martin Hope with 24lbs 2oz.

The winning team on the day was Drennan Barnsley with 37 points, just three ahead of Calder 8 and Willy Worms a further point behind on 33.

Individual result: 1 M Highe 30lbs 14oz; 2 T Earnshaw 27lbs 4oz; 3 M Hope 24lbs 2oz; 4 S Clegg 21lbs 3oz; 5 S Foster 19lbs 15oz.

Team result: 1 Drennan Barnsley 37 points; 2 Calder 8 34; 3 Willy Worms 33; =4 Punky's 8 & Reserves 31; =6 Mirfield & Bradford No1 29.

The River Nidd at Cowthorpe will be closed on Sunday for a members match, with tickets available from Simon on 01274 571175.

The stretch has been fishing well for barbel and chub over the opening couple of weeks.

LEEDS & DISTRICT ASA

To commemorate 50 years of being at the club, on Sunday, July 7, there is a programme of events starting at 12.30pm, with children's face painting and progressing throughout the day with various events and entertainment.

All members family and friends are invited.

The match at Ulleskelf was won by S Wilson with 28lb 4oz, comprising four barbel and one chub. Other results: 2 M Smith 20lb 14oz, 3 K Smith 18lb 12oz.

In the match at Kippax Park on Tuesday, June 25: 1 N Carr 71lb 14oz, 2 D Wright 70lb 7oz; 3 R Thomas 50lb 12oz.

In the match on Saturday, the winner was D Wright 114lb 8oz; 2 A Middleton 66lb 6oz; 3 P Cromie 52lb 5oz.

The match at Moormonkton Pools on Wednesday, June 26: The winner was D Pollitt 124lb 3oz; 2 A Middleton 116lb 11oz; 3 D Wright 103lb 10z.

In the match on Sunday, the winner was B Fisk 121lb 12oz, 2 P Cromie 97lb 12oz; 3 A Middleton 86lb 13oz.

LISTERHILLS AA

The last match on the canal at Rodley was won by B Mason with two tench weighing 6lb 12oz. Other results: 2 L Passey one tench weighing 3lb 112oz; 3 B Lowthian 11lb 9oz. All others caught but less than 1lb.
