THE Derventio Excel Long Course meet held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield saw a small team of City of Bradford Swimming Club members gain final placings along with a bronze medal.

Swimming in the 10/11 years age group, Freddy Dean was City’s only medallist with a bronze in the 50-metre breaststroke. He then went on to place fifth in the 200m individual medley.

Oscar Hobson, 12, was next in line with a fifth-placed finish in the 50m butterfly, eighth in the 50m breaststroke and ninth in the 200m breaststroke.

Fifth place also went to Jasmine Shay in the girls' 10/11 years 50m backstroke, she also finished in seventh place in the 50m freestyle.

Cameron Singh Mander had three top-10 finishes in the boys' 15/16 years 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

The breaststroke events also saw Rebecca Dunn, 14, of Guiseley, with top-10 finishes in the 100m and 200m events.

Top-10 finishes also went to Rose Lever, Ellen Winters, Abigail Naylor and Keighley's Sam Akers.

Meanwhile, a small squad of Bradford’s top swimmers competed in the prestigious City of Sheffield Premier long course meet.

Bradford’s swimmers were chasing qualifying times for future meets as well as medals on this occasion and medals were hard to come by.

It was Dunn who swam to City’s only medal of the meet with a bronze in the 200m breaststroke. She also gained eighth-place finishes in the 50m and 100m events.

Sixth place went to Singh Mander in the 15/16 years 50m breaststroke and his flair for breaststroke continued in the longer 100m event where he claimed eighth place.

Gracie Beaumont, 13, was consistent in claiming eighth place in the 100m and 200m backstroke and Fraser Buxton, swimming in the 15/16 years event, finished in eighth place in the 50m breaststroke.

All the swimmers train with Bradford Aquatics Competition Programme under the guidance of Sarah Fisher and Andy Pearce.
