FLORENCE Greenhalgh was among the standout performers as East Bradford Cycling Club celebrated yet another superb set of year-end results for their youth section at their annual dinner.

Under-14 rider Florence claimed 19 wins and other podium placings in road circuit and cyclo-cross events, which led to her being declared the club's best all-rounder and receiving the coveted Olympic torch trophy to hold until next year.

She was also the regional British Schools Time Trial champion and finished second in the prestigious multi-stage Isle of Man trophy last summer.

There were plenty of other riders who also took plaudits after a year in which the club enjoyed 52 wins, 74 second-places, 66 thirds and 220 other top 12 positions.

Under-14 track specialist Ryan Thomas performed superbly in the Manchester Velodrome ACT League and at the York outdoor velodrome, winning 14 times and getting 38 second places and 26 thirds.

His fifth place overall in the Manchester series was all the more remarkable as he only started in September against riders who had been racing all year.

Under-10 Jacob Harrison was on the podium 16 times on and off-road, finishing second to Florence in the Best All-Rounder category.

Under-16 Amber Hull showed her versatility by winning mountain-bike downhill and cross-country events and getting seven seconds and thirds in cyclo-cross.

In the Under-14s, Ben Ramsden just edged out Calum Watson in their season-long cyclo-cross tussle, while the Elwell brothers, Lucas and Spike, also finished well up in cyclo-cross.

Senior club coach Mandy Parker said: "Our results come from hard work in our Saturday morning and weekday evening sessions at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre and the demanding Thursday roller training at the Farsley Farfield Primary School throughout the winter.

"We very much hope that the replacement track and other facilities at the former Wyke Manor School will come to fruition as soon as possible after the closure of the Richard Dunn Centre this September, so that we may continue to develop some of Yorkshire's best young riders."
