BRADFORD NO 1 AA

This Sunday we have round two of the Raskelf Winter Series, which will be drawn at the Black Bull at 9am.

The new gate and lock is now in place at Kirklees Lagoon to improve security at the lake and ensure only members access the venue.

The lock uses the same key as at Knotford, and details on how to get a key can be found in the yearbook.

The same lock will also be introduced to Raskelf Lake in January 2020.

Day tickets for non-members to fish Harold Park or Chellow Dene can now be bought from JB's off licence at 27 Union Road, Low Moor. They are also available from bradfordno1.com.

Membership for 2019 is available from local tackle shop agents, Simon Freer on 07714 662783 or on our website.

Please note that Tackle 2u no longer stock our yearbooks, but they can be bought from Eccleshill Angling.

Thank you to everybody who attended our working parties at Knotford. There was a good turnout and a lot of progress made.

LEEDS & DISTRICT ASA

It is with deep regret that we learned of the death of David Scott, after a short illness. He was a life member of the society and a past vice-president, he still regularly attended delegates meetings and will be missed.

Work is almost complete on securing the perimeter fence at Knotford Lagoon, a reminder that members have up to the end of the month to renew their night permits, after which those on the waiting list will be vetted.

LISTERHILLS AA

Any member who applied for Leeds Amalgamation membership has now received their book and all subsequent applications will be dealt with within days.

There is no entry fee and membership is available all year round.

The next members match will be held on the canal at a venue yet to be decided. Very few anglers have been out over the last few days.

KEIGHLEY ANGLING CLUB

Temperatures finally began to dip after a mild start to the winter bringing enthusiastic pike anglers to river and stillwater banks.

Last week, a small jack pike was netted before being returned to slow running waters on the River Aire.

Keighley Angling Club reminds anyone catching pike to use the right equipment and record the catch to be in with a chance of claiming the annual pike trophy.

Trout and grayling continued to dominate activities on the river. Many reports were received of anglers landing up to a dozen fish per session.

While quiver tipped maggots on feeder or lead shot fared well, one Keighley club member set an incredible standard using stick float and mixed maggot to land 39 fish including grayling up to 2lb in an amazing three-hour spell on steady flowing water between Utley and Kildwick.

Elsewhere, a fin-perfect 4lb trout was brought to the bank was probably the best catch of the week.

Now that water levels remain settled, it may be worth testing the river for chub by suspending breadflake under a stick float in some of the renowned deep pools between Silsden and Keighley.

SALTAIRE AA

Last Sunday's canal open fished hard following a drop in temperatures.

Leading the way from the middle of the boats from peg 18 was George Colbran, Keighley, with 3lb 8oz of caster roach, 2 John Harman, Tricast Calder, 2lb 6oz, peg 21, 3 Tony Price, Matrix Waynes Tackle, 1lb 10oz peg 19. There is a match this Sunday, to book, call Richard East on 07815 092966.

Last week's river match on the middle length was a real dire affair. Only Tony Greenwood weighed in with two grayling for two pounds from the shallows, everyone else blanked so he went home with all the cash.

Next match will be back on the bottom length Sunday, February 3. To book, call Carl Chadwick on 07955 72707.

The 2019 year books are now available in the following outlets and need to be purchased before going out onto the bank. WH Kershaws Domestic Appliance Repairs, 1d Aktinson Street, Shipley, Eccleshill Angling Supplies, KL Tackle, Tackle2U, Angling and Country Sports, Otley, Foresters Arms, Grassington.

SKIPTON ANGLING ASSOCIATION

In an effort to improve fishing and wildlife habitat together with helping to alleviate future increases in flood levels, action is being undertaken by many fishing clubs and associated organisations including the Skipton AA and the Aire Rivers Trust.

The Skipton club will be continuing its tree planting scheme at Embsay Reservoir on Sunday from 10am. All members and anyone willing to lend a hand should meet at the reservoir to help further this interesting work.

The Aire Rivers Trust is to meet every Thursday during January, February and March, to plant hundreds of trees along the banks of the River Aire.

Once again the event is open to anyone wishing to help improve the environment and at the same time reduce the flood risk on the Aire. Please meet at the Low Wood Scout Activity Centre on Scott Road West, Riddlesden, for a 10am start. Tools, protective clothing and refreshments will be provided.

As mentioned last week, the Skipton AA requires a new general secretary to basically lead the club besides compiling minutes, dealing with the correspondence, rents, leases and fish ordering.

Ideally, the position should be filled from the membership but a non-member (would be given membership) or a non-angler would also be considered.

Officials with another angling club cannot apply. Meetings are held once a month in Skipton and usually last for approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Anyone who is interested should contact the interim secretary on 07851 554 623.

The continuing dull, damp and cold weather has kept many anglers away from the waterside but the local length of the canal has finally shown a big improvement with some good fishing reported.

Pike to well over the 5kg mark have been landed on deadbait from the basin at Skipton, while some excellent catches of decent roach and perch have been made on either side of the basin.

This part of the canal is controlled by the Skipton AA and membership or a day ticket is required before any fishing commences.
