UNITY A have lifted the Bradford League Division Two championship following their home fixture with bottom-of-the-table Hermits D.

The hosts were always going to be the favourites for the title with former Bradford No 1 Mick Stead in their line-up, and Stead has certainly delivered, playing in 15 of their 19 matches and having a 100 per cent record.

With solid support from Neil Harris, Steve Whitaker and Geoff Dunne, Unity A have lost just once all season, and a 9-1 success against Hermits D put them out of reach of second-placed Highdale B.

Whitaker and Dunne both won three against Hermits, and Harris added a couple, with Glen Ellis also on the mark for Hermits.

In Division Three, second met third as Hermits G entertained Rastrick.

The visitors could not overtake Hermits for the runners-up spot but that did not stop them from taking the spoils in a tight contest.

Mick Whitham and Brian Banks put Rastrick in a strong position at halfway as they won two each to open up a 4-1 lead, but Hermits rallied and Terry Halliday had wins over Peter Mitchell and Whitham.

Stephen Morris beat Mitchell in the last singles and it was game on at 5-4 to Rastrick.

Banks and Whitham teamed up in the doubles and were 2-0 down to Tim Moran and Halliday but took the last three three games to come away with a 6-4 victory.

In Division Four, a fine individual performance from Burhaan Saghir was not enough for Hermits K in their derby with Hermits H.

Saghir took all of his three singles, and John Korner added a single as the K team led 4-3.

Geoff Parkes and Stewart Varley replied with two each for Hermits H and George Raine took a single, with Parkes and Varley clinching a 6-4 victory in the doubles.
