TASIF Khan set his sights on another title shot after winning his Mexican stand-off in Bradford.

A stoppage success over former WBC title challenger Juan Lopez Martinez at the Royal Taj dinner show propelled the Girlington super-flyweight towards a summer crack at the IBF intercontinental belt.

The ten-round non-championship bout with Martinez of Mexico took place in an electric atmosphere and the home fighter took charge in the opening stages with some big shots to both body and head.

Martinez was happy for Khan to take the initiative and look to counter in the first couple of rounds.

Then Khan stepped it up in the third with his superior hand speed and shook his opponent with a right to the chin late on in the round.

Having cleared his senses, Martinez tried to take the fight to Khan in the fourth and landed a vicious hook to the head.

But that opened him up and the Bradford man reeled off combinations each time the Mexican mounted an attack.

Khan caught Martinez with another big shot which knocked him back towards the ropes and he let rip with a double-handed flurry, a juddering left hook to the body sending the Mexican to the canvas.

Martinez made the count and looked to tie up Khan on the inside once again in the fifth – but he was fighting a losing battle.

Khan's corner grew annoyed that the home fighter was allowing him to land uppercuts while grabbing hold and urged their man to work off his jab and stay at a distance.

He picked it up once more to start the sixth and broke loose from another holding session to fire off a couple of jabs before another hook to the body sent Martinez plunging again.

The Mexican tried to get to his feet but could not beat referee James Ancliff's count, with the stoppage recorded at the midway point of the round.
