CITY of Bradford Swimming Club members got the new year off to a cracking start as they picked up 51 gold medals – 29 at A Grade and 22 at B Grade – in the Harrogate Janus Meet at Harrogate Hydro.

Leading the way were Harris Khaliq with six, Maya Griffiths (5) and Ellen Winters (4).

George Smith, Joshua Jones and John-Luke Hutchinson picked up two each, while there were singles for Naomi Calvert, Poppy Anderson, Lily Broxup, Fraser Buxton, Tom Stenhouse, Archie Dunne, Sam Wardle and Nathan Strauss.

In addition, 11-year-old Maya Griffiths also claimed a speeding ticket in the 200 metres freestyle in a time of 2min 25.55sec.

B level included a brace of victories for Megan Richmond, Sam Akers and Luca Curini, plus singles for Anderson, Abigail Naylor, Buxton, Khaliq, Bailey Lonsdale, Aidan Joyce, George Varley, Broxup, Maisie Dunne, Ellie Horrocks, Joshua Hall, Louie Dove, Stenhouse, Matty-Joe Wilson, Isaac Naylor and Josh Taylor.

The meet was a good introduction to competitive swimming for some of City's emerging talent and produced a host of personal-best times and Yorkshire qualifying times.

All of the above swimmers train with the Leisure Services Aquatic Competition Programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
