LEEDS potter Johnathon Bagley won a thrilling snooker final against Castleford opponent Peter Fisher at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds to become Yorkshire champion for the second time.

Bagley set off well, winning the opening frame 63-20, and extended his lead by making a break of 60 in a high-scoring, error-strewn second frame which he won 88-64.

Fisher found some fluency in the third frame, making a break of 36 to take it 70-44 despite Bagley knocking in a break of 43 in coming from 51 points down.

The final frame before the interval was a highly-skilled tactical affair and Fisher managed to pick off the final balls to level the match at 2-2 with a 66-25 success.

This seemed to give him an extra spring in his step and he opened up another 51-point lead in frame five with the aid of a 47 break – but Bagley again fought back with a break of 53 to take it 68-54.

Yet the Castleford man was not going to lie down without a fight and an excellent break of 61 gave him a 67-37 frame win to level the match again at 3-3.

The final frame was, as expected, a tense, tactical battle and Fisher appeared to have done enough, having a 17-point advantage with only 25 remaining.

Unfortunately, he went in off attempting a pot and Bagley picked off green, brown and blue before potting a brave double on the pink.

He landed perfectly on the black and potted it for a 53-41 steal and with it the trophy that he last won in 2009.

Meanwhile, Mark Hirst of Bradford won the Yorkshire Billiards Handicap Championship after defeating multi-Yorkshire champion Stephen Crosland.
