DIVISION 2A champions elect Yeadon Flyers-A lost their unbeaten record in an enthralling Bradford League contest at Hermits C.

Veteran Keith Powell starred for Hermits with three singles wins and, with Paul Mckrieth and Zarnab Jamal both beating Mick Burton, they opened up a 5-2 lead.

Yeadon dug deep in the last two singles match-ups to try and preserve their unbeaten tag as Chris Sanderson came from behind to pip Jamal 11-9 in the fifth game before Derek Greenwood was also 2-1 behind but overcame Mckrieth 11-8 in the decider.

But Powell was to have final say as he and Mckrieth took a tense doubles clash 11-9 in the fifth game to seal a 6-4 final score.

Meanwhile, Mckrieth was playing up for leaders Hermits A in their Division 1B derby clash with Hermits B and again he was involved in a nail-biting finish.

Matthew Shaw shone for the A team with three singles wins and Mckrieth provided great support with two victories. Ian Warner won two for Hermits B, with Andy Braithwaite and Shamir Bose adding one each.

The deciding doubles then saw Warner and Bose coasting at 2-0 up – but Shaw and Mckrieth took the last three games 11-3, 13-11, 11-9 for a 6-4 overall victory which leaves the A team just one win away from the championship.
