KARL Boyes made it three Mosconi Cup wins from three as he and Team Europe celebrated beating the United States 11-5 in Blackpool.

Boyes, raised in Bradford but now living in the host town, lost his doubles match alongside Darren Appleton on the opening day but hit back to win a singles point on day two and added two doubles victories on day three.

This left Europe 9-5 up going into the final day of the pool equivalent of golf's Ryder Cup, needing to reach 11 points to successfully defend the title.

And they needed just two singles matches to do so without Boyes having to return to the table.

Boyes said: “It’s amazing; my third Mosconi Cup. The first (in 2010) was my favourite in terms of drama, whereas last year in Las Vegas was very much a one-sided tournament.

“I’ve played in three Mosconi Cups now and only lost three matches. Me and Darren won the World Cup of Pool this year and I’ve topped the end of 2014 off with this. I’ve just got to try and win the World Masters now!”
