Missing Pawel Idziorek, Richard Wells and Jake Wood proved too big a mountain for Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway Club to climb at Firth Park, and they lost their Northern League match 97-53 to full-strength Sheffield.
However, Chris Summersgill - a late call-up for the hosts - did well to score eight points, having been out of the sport for a couple of months, and 11-year-old Tom Whitwam showed he is as good as many of the older riders by getting a maximum in the junior match.
Scores: Heckmondwike 53 (Darren Kent 10, Justin Naylor 10, Adam Watson 9+1, Laura Watson 8+1, Tom Whitwam 8, Chris Summersgill 8), Sheffield 97. Juniors: Heckmondwike 45 (Tom Whitwam 16, Will Naylor 12, Declan Summersgill 8, Bella Naylor 5, Ben Summersgill 4), Sheffield 75.
Training continues on Wednesdays (7.30pm-9pm) at Firth Park, Heckmondwike, WF160HH. For further information, contact Justin Naylor on 07799-367370.
