Junior Witter admits that only Ricky Hatton will decide if their British superfight ever happens.

Bradford's WBC light-welterweight king, who stopped Mexican Arturo Morua at Alexandra Palace on Saturday night in his first title defence, dreams of facing the Hitman in a winner-takes-all showdown.

Hatton regained the IBF version of the world title with an unconvincing points win over Colombia's Juan Urango in Las Vegas but continues to hold out against a unification face-off with his greatest domestic rival.

And the chances of it taking place appear to be edging away.

Hatton, who had announced before the weekend that he would never fight Witter, plans to meet Jose Luis Castillo next on June 2. Witter will be up against the winner of the February 10 eliminator between Vivian Harris and Juan Lazcano.

Witter said: "The fight is as far away as he (Hatton) wants it to be. It's there if he wants it but if he doesn't then there's nothing I can do about it.

"But I'm not fussed about opponents. I'm not worried by anybody in the world - as long as the match is made and the money's right I'm there. Get me the fights and I will beat up anyone in my way."

Witter was disappointed by Morua's ultra-cautious tactics, which took him until the ninth round to unravel. But the finish was a devastating one with shots flying in from all angles before referee Tim Adams stepped in to rescue the Mexican.

"Morua didn't want to come forward and commit himself," added Witter. "He was feinting all the time and I couldn't get my shots going and was a little bit more hesitant than normal.

"But once I got going you saw the result. When the power hit him, I knew he didn't want to perform any more. When I realised I had him, it was a case of that's enough of you, let's get it over and done with', which I did."

A defence against the hard-hitting Harris would be in England again but a clash with Lazcano, who comes under the same Golden Boy promotional banner in America as Witter, is likely to be over there.

Witter wants to make his name in the US and his promoter Mick Hennessy is confident of making a big-money match with two-weight world champion Diego Corrales.

Hennessy said: "Corrales is very interested. If Junior fights Lazcano out there, maybe they might do Corrales on the same bill with the winners squaring off against each other."
