Right on Cue

Bradford’s billiards side recorded a 5-2 success at Doncaster in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

An early run of 26 saw Paul Devitt off to a promising start against Branson Hoole but it proved to be the highest break of a scrappy game, which the Bradford player eventually won 200-168.

Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw established an early lead before a break of 42 from opponent Dave Palmer brought the scores level.

A run of 30 from Kershaw opened up an advantage again, which he subsequently increased, and despite a late flurry from Palmer, Bradford eased 4-0 up with a 200-172 victory.

The third game between John McEachran and Doncaster captain Laurence Torn was a tight affair throughout but it was Torn who was eventually victorious by 200-190 to prevent a whitewash.

The snooker teams are back in action this weekend, with Division One leaders and defending champions Bradford No 1 taking on Castleford No 2 at Undercliffe Cricket Club on Sunday (7.30pm).

Bradford No 2 head to Castleford No 3 in Division Two, where they will be hoping to continue their recent good form.

Prior to the Bradford No 1 match, the draws for the Bradford Snooker Championships will take place, including the pairs competition.

Anyone wishing to watch these draws live is requested to be at the Undercliffe venue for 6.30pm.

Eccleshill Victoria player Lewis Walsh will be in the hat after a 4-1 victory against 1996 champion Sajid Khan (Bullroyd Social).

The same score saw Paul Jackson (Lilycroft) knock out Chris Morton (Low Moor), while Mark Slater (Clayton Libs) enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Dean Parker (Laisterdyke WMC) and Elliott Glover (Low Moor) defeated Darren Goy (Eccleshill Victoria Cons) 4-2.

The next round of the Hey’s Trophy gets underway next Thursday, as do two preliminary-round ties in the E Rosse Hopkinson Plate. Details have been sent out to all clubs.
