BRADFORD No1 AA

The annual veterans’ match at Raskelf was won by Pete Wilson with 46lb 2oz of bream and skimmers on pole and worm. Joint-second was Graham Brammer, who also won the over-70s shield, and Geoff Cox with 32lb. Ian Graham finished fourth with ten bream for 30lb 8oz. Kara Sugden claimed a clean sweep of trophies from this year’s junior matches by winning the second match at Raskelf with 19lb 1oz of skimmers and ide. The 14-year-old also won the aggregate weight over the series with 45lb 5oz to beat Scott Moffat, who caught a combined 42lb 12oz. Morgan Freer came second in the match with 15lb 6oz of F1s. Scott Moffat won the under-11s trophy on the day with 24lb 10oz of skimmers and crucians, followed by Ella Freer with 19lb 2oz of F1s. Sunday’s members’ match at Maunby was won by Peter Vickerman with 6lb of dace. I Bradley and A Baker caught one chub each for 4lb 14oz and 4lb respectively for second and third places. Nun Monkton is closed on Saturday for an outside booking. Some sections of the River Calder will be closed on Sunday for the second round of this year’s Calder League, which draws at the Railway Inn at 9am. Shelf Dam is worth a visit this weekend for bream and chub on maggot or castor.

KEIGHLEY AC

Our weekend winner was Joe Parker, who triumphed in difficult conditions with a 9lb 10oz haul. The River Aire continues to fish well despite searing temperatures, with reports of large numbers of brown trout and grayling being caught on mixed maggot. The club are encouraged by barbel beginning to show on the river, indicating the success of a targeted restocking programme conducted jointly with the Environment Agency over recent years. The canal remains in excellent condition and one club member netted a 7lb bream near Silsden. Roach and skimmers have also been caught in large numbers by anglers using poles baited with maggot. Club officials have been keeping an eye on large amounts of foam appearing intermittently on the river between Kildwick and a stretch of water below Stockbridge. Although it is not known whether a pollutant has entered the river, the club have informed the Environment Agency as a precaution.

WASHBURN VALLEY

The heaviest fish caught during the week was a 6lb 2oz blue trout by Derek Smith using bibio. Fewston: Rainbow and blue trout are taking buzzer rising to the water’s surface early morning, then settling deep as the sun rises. Swinsty: Dropping water levels are allowing more access to fish. Perch and chub are now more active in the warmer water. Thruscross: Wild brown trout are feeding near the surface but can be very spooky to movement. LISTERHILLS AA

The winner of last week’s open match at Rodley was J Storey with a hard-earned 2lb 3½oz, with E Harrison (1lb 6oz) second and W Barker (1lb 1oz) third. M Johnson has had some good mixed catches recently from Pilley’s to standard tactics. Those employing a specialist approach have been successful with carp, although pike are a nuisance at times.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC

Our latest trip to Rhyl was once again a great day out. Eight anglers caught over 350 fish, with whiting, dabs, gurnard and dogfish being the most common spieces caught. Thornback rays were also present, with ten being caught up to 6lb. One tope of 9lb fell to Dave Taylor, who also caught the bigest fish of the day when he landed a bull huss of 9lb 4oz. Results: 1 Rob Wadsworth 276 points, 2 Dave Kitchingman (who caught the most spieces) 224, 3 Chris Foord 129.

BRADFORD PALS AC

Our next match is on Sunday, July 28 at Southfield Reservoir, drawing at 9am. We are pegged on the bridge side and up into the woods. Remember that you have to sit in the water on some pegs in order to fish, so don’t forget your platforms, boots or waders. This match is also the third round of the club knockout. Anyone not fishing this match must notify the match secretary before this Sunday. BRADFORD CITY AA The club’s next match is this Sunday on River Ure at Brampton Farm. There is currently one golden peg worth £100 and a silver peg worth £50. Tickets cost £15 all in and are available from match secretary Rod Brooksbank on 07875-275749 or 01423-523368. With the continued spell of warm weather, all waters are now producing good sport and are well worth a visit.

HEWENDEN AC
