GRAHAM Alexander insists he relishes the expectancy surrounding City as they review plans for the remainder of the window.

The derby defeat at Huddersfield meant the Bantams have lost two on the bounce for the first time since promotion.

City slipped to fourth on goal difference behind Bolton. Stockport are also on the same points tally but Alexander’s men have played the fewest games in the top six.

With just a week left in the January window, injuries to Will Swan and Antoni Sarcevic have turned the focus on increasing attacking options.

But Alexander warned they must be clear with any targets.

Alexander said: “We haven't got a bottomless pit of money and we haven't got an open-ended squad where we can sign 30 players.

“We’ve only got a certain amount of positions that we need to support.

“We do take into account if this or that player misses who comes in. But there's no team or squad anywhere that has absolute like-for-like in each position.

“It's impossible to do that, and certainly we haven't got that. But we've got a good group of players who know how we want to play.

“We've been beaten twice on the bounce for the first time in 10 months. Someone had to tell me when it was because I can't remember the last time it happened.

“We're a good team, we've got good players, and we have to make sure that we add to those good players with the right profiles, if we can get them.

“If we can't, there's no point in signing a player who doesn't fit in with our system, or how we do things, or how Bradford City is.

“Because then, in four or six months from now, you've got a mishmash of a squad that doesn't work.

“We have to be disciplined and have clarity in our thoughts about what improves us as a team.”

There was widespread disappointment among fans following the 1-0 loss at the Accu Stadium. But Alexander is confident there is plenty more to come from City, who must recover quickly before tomorrow’s trip to second-placed Lincoln.

“Maybe people are writing us off and probably think we should go down to our natural level as a club competing in League One for the first time.

“It won't come into the changing room, it won't come into the staff. We will still strive to be better than what other people perceive us to be, or what we could be.

“I think we've done that all season and shown we are a competitive team.

“They're big games. Do you know why they're big games? Because of where we are in the league and what we've done.

“I love the position we're in. I love the expectancy on us that we've created.

“We have to maintain that and it's a challenge in front of us. Nothing is easy and we’re looking forward to it.”
