CITY’S promotion-winning squad can forge a lifelong friendship after what they have done together.

Graham Alexander feels those special memories and achievements will maintain a bond that will exist well after their playing careers are over.

He was inundated with messages before and after the decisive Fleetwood game from former teammates and friends that he had not seen for years. But that connection from winning together is always there – and he expects the same with the group that got out of League Two.

“I got some texts from Preston lads who won the league 25 years ago, a couple of pictures images and stuff like that.

“There will be lads who I haven’t seen in that time. But if they walked in now, there would be a hug and (then we’d be) straight into taking the mickey out of each other.

“That’s what it does and you have that with the fans as well. I certainly have at Preston and Burnley.

“You do want these players to have that experience. Some had already but others hadn’t, and I want them to taste it and have that, so it drives them on in the future.”
