CITY have a couple of candidates in mind to replace Greg Stebbings as head of physical performance.

Stebbings’ three-year spell at Valley Parade finished at the end of the season.

He had served under three managers – Derek Adams, Mark Hughes and Graham Alexander – since joining the club from Scotland’s international rugby league set-up in June 2021.

Stebbings was initially appointed under Adams as first team sports scientist before being promoted to head of physical performance last summer.

But present boss Alexander felt it was the right time to make the change.

“It’s similar to a playing squad,” said the City chief. “If we feel we can improve, we need to do what’s right for the club.

“It’s not just on the playing side. We had enough time at the club to oversee everything, judge everything and get all the information that we needed.

“The remit when we came in was to improve as much as we could.

“Some things you can improve straight away, others have to happen over a period of time.

“We just felt the opportunity was there with the season ending to improve as much as we possibly can both on and off the pitch.

“We’re only going to make decisions we feel are for the benefit of Bradford City going forward.

“Sometimes we have to make tough decisions but that’s just the sport we are in and we can’t shy away from them.”
