GRAHAM Alexander does not want to be a phone pest in his bid to bring back Tyreik Wright and Dan Oyegoke.

The City boss has made it clear he would love to get the loan duo back at Valley Parade for next season.

Alexander has already registered his interest with their parent clubs Plymouth and Brentford respectively. But he’s wary of badgering them too often.

“We’ve made contact a couple of weeks ago,” he said. “But ringing up the club every second day, eventually they get annoyed answering.

“We want to keep a good dialogue with these clubs and the players and building relationships. But we also understand we’re not in control of the situation.

“I think if those players do become available then we’ll know about it.

“If their future lies elsewhere or at their parent clubs, I think we’ll know about it as well. That’s the most we can ask for really.”

Wright played 15 times on his loan return to City and scored twice against Accrington. Oyegoke came back from a serious shoulder injury to finish with 28 appearances over the season.

Alexander added: “If you are re-signing a player, the risk factor for both parties is obviously less.

“They know they are coming into an environment where they are fully valued and treated the same as any contracted player. It’s not an us and them.

“The parent club sees a player develop in a good way, playing in a good team in big games, playing in front of big crowds.

“For Premier League or Championship teams loaning players down the leagues, I think we’ve got quite a unique situation to prepare them.

“That’s something teams will take on board, the crowds they play in front of and the pressure they are under.

“We do have that as an added incentive for higher-up clubs to loan players to us.

“Other clubs will also look at the guys that have come to us and how they’ve been valued with game time and got experience.

“I believe they have become better players and that’s what their clubs look for.

“They also know they are coming to a competitive environment and it’s not just a gimme that they are guaranteed to play.

“It’s the same if we loan players out. We don’t look for guarantees they will play - they have to earn it.

“We want players to understand that football is about competition and if they get that and they are played every week, then we know we’ve got a good player on our hands.

“That’s what we can offer to potential loanees.”

Jon Tomkinson also played regularly in the second half of the season. The USA Olympic defender still has another year to run on his Norwich contract but his situation there is uncertain following David Wagner’s sacking.

Alexander insists City are happy to look at the loan market again but have learned the lesson from last season.

“I think we had the balance just right in the second half of the season. We had too many in the first part.

“We’ve got an open mind. Ideally you want players whose future is tied in with the club’s.

“But I would never rule out getting good ones because you saw the quality those three guys brought to us.”

Loan deals are likely to be sanctioned later in the window as clubs often hold on to players for added numbers during pre-season.

In the case of Oyegoke, internationals coming back from the Euros could delay his release from Brentford.

“We've obviously identified players we’d like to re-sign right now,” said Alexander. “But their parent clubs want them to stay in for pre-season.

“That’s certainly the case with Premier League clubs when there’s a tournament summer like this one and they have players returning late.

“That’s the only real drawback. There’s no guarantee you’re going to get the guy you really want.

“There’s a bit of patience and balance needed. That’s why the communication is important.

“If there’s no intention of the player returning at this stage, the quicker we know the better it is for everybody.”
