Bradford City will hope to make it third time lucky at Barrow later this month, after tonight’s rearranged clash was called off.

Heavy rain overnight in Cumbria had left the Holker Street pitch struggling to be game-ready, with both clubs announcing a pitch inspection at 10:30am.

Tonight’s referee, Ross Joyce, conducted that half-an-hour later and he has deemed the surface unfit to host the match.

The initial game was due to take place on Saturday, February 24, but was postponed an hour before kick off, much to the chagrin of Barrow boss Pete Wild in particular.

Referee Tom Nield made a last-minute call to deem the pitch unplayable, which was a surprise to both sides and both sets of match-going fans, pretty much all of whom were already in situ in Barrow at the time of the announcement.

This decision has at least come over eight hours before kick off, long before most people would have been planning to set off for Cumbria.

Though it has not been officially announced yet, the re-arranged game is highly likely to take place on the night of Tuesday, April 23, given it is the only free midweek Barrow have left between now and the end of the season.
