BRAD Halliday says City are playing for their Valley Parade futures as Graham Alexander builds towards a summer revamp.

Halliday is among the out-of-contract members of the squad waiting to hear if they will be offered a new deal. The club have an option on Halliday and several others.

Saturday’s match-winner seems certain to get an offer as the team’s most consistent performer this season.

But he is taking nothing for granted and insists the pressure is on the dressing room in the remaining games.

Halliday said: “It’s something that happens at this club. We all know that the talks happen in the summer.

“My mind is clear that I’ve got four games to prove to myself and to the staff, the players and the fans that I’m deserving of a new contract.

“That’s the industry we’re in. It’s tough at times but it’s clear in my mind and everyone else that it doesn’t happen until the summer.

“It’s about being patient and trying to be the best I can be in games and training day in, day out and see where that takes me.”

City’s new head of football operations David Sharpe sat down for a lengthy meeting on Thursday with Alexander, assistant manager Chris Lucketti, chief executive Ryan Sparks and head of recruitment Stephen Gent.

Boss Alexander said: “We were there for about seven or eight hours just going through everything, the infrastructure and what we needed to do to improve if we can.

“We didn’t get that deep into contracts (but) the playing squad was obviously the main focus of it. What we have here, what we have to improve on and what we can bring in during the summer.

“There are still players here who we feel can take us forward.

“There was a lot of information thrown around because we need to get David up to speed and help him help us.

“David will have learned plenty in a very long meeting about the initial thoughts of what we need to do.

“We all need to keep communicating and we will talk on a regular basis to make sure we’re fully prepared when the new season comes around.”

Halliday marked his 100th game in a City shirt by scoring the only goal against Gillingham.

“It’s a fantastic achievement and I am really proud,” added the defender. “I want to play every minute of every game.

“It’s something I want to carry on doing going forward."
