IT’S sure been a long time in coming – just didn’t realise how long.
When was the last league game where a City player scored twice – and his surname wasn’t Cook?
The Bantams talisman notched his 16th goal of the season in an excellent line-leading display as Accrington were dispatched 3-0 by half-time.
But for once Andy Cook had to play second fiddle on the scoresheet to Tyreik Wright’s double.
That is the first time this season when someone other than Cook has scored two in a league encounter.
In fact, you have to go back 59 games ago to New Year’s Day 2023 for the last occasion that happened – Vadaine Oliver claiming two of City’s three goals in a Valley Parade victory over Salford.
In a neat piece of symmetry, that was also Wright’s final appearance of his first loan spell with City before he joined Plymouth later that week.
Cook came off the bench to replace Oliver that game so was not on the pitch when the big striker got his goals.
He was also a second-half sub when Charles Vernam scored the second of his double at Sutton at the end of the previous season in April 2022.
But if you want to find out the last time Cook started a league game where a City team-mate netted twice, you have to go all the way back to Derek Adams’ first win in charge when Lee Angol got both against Oldham in August 2021.
