JAMIE Walker is still a fortnight away from stepping back into full training with City.
Graham Alexander has given another positive update on the Scot’s progress.
But he will not put a date on Walker’s possible comeback for his first action since the pre-Christmas injury at Doncaster.
“He’s still progressing,” said the City boss. “We want him back but we want him back in the right condition, in the best condition so he doesn’t have a recurrence of that.
“We certainly don’t want to push players at this stage where we might lose them again. If we lost him again, that would be his season done.
“He’s out on the grass every day. He’s still not joining in with us yet but I think that’s getting close.
“That will speed up his rehab and his progress. He’s certainly progressed in the last seven to 10 days.
“But it’s still maybe a couple of weeks before he’s back into full training with us.
“He will be a great addition to the squad as soon as that happens. We know that and I think the other players are looking forward to playing with him again.”
Walker had been instrumental in City’s six-match winning burst before suffering a heavy challenge in south Yorkshire.
The Bantams failed to win any of their first eight games without him.
Alexander has not pencilled in a potential return fixture for Walker to aim for.
“I don’t do that. I don’t want to look too far ahead because I think it’s a dangerous game.
“You either get disappointed and then it’s a negative and maybe you’re not focusing on the players who are out there fit and ready to do it now.
“I trust the information I get back from the medical staff and I trust my eyes when I see him out there.
“But in the here and now, I focus on the players that are fit to train and play.
“When they come back into full training, that’s when they get my full focus. Hopefully that’s sooner rather than later.”
Matty Platt remains out for this weekend's game against Notts County. Jake Young also faces a lengthy lay-off following his recent hamstring operation.
