CITY missed out on a Wembley trip as Wycombe pinched stoppage-time victory in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy semi-finals.

T&A chief sports writer SIMON PARKER was at a gutted Valley Parade last night and provides the match stats and his player ratings.

MAN OF THE MATCH

There were some whole-hearted performances in claret and amber against higher-division opponents. Alex Gilliead set the bar with an all-action effort operating at left wing-back, constantly bombing up and down and making light of the very heavy pitch.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Kevin McDonald sent Tyler Smith through from City’s first attack but keeper Max Stryjek denied him – setting the tone for a night of huge frustration in front of goal.

MOAN OF THE MATCH

So many good chances – and no goals to show for it. Wycombe keeper Max Stryjek defied City with some big saves but you know that if Andy Cook had been available, it would have been a different story.

TACTICS

Tyler Smith got the nod to replace the suspended Andy Cook up front.

Richie Smallwood returned mid-ban to midfield where he was partnered by Kevin McDonald with Alex Gilliead switching to left wing-back.

Matty Platt was ruled out at the back after coming off on Saturday so Sam Stubbs reverted to his usual role after his successful midfield stint.
