MATT Bloomfield wants his anniversary party to go with a bang by clinching Wycombe’s place at Wembley.

Today marks exactly a year since the Chairboys stalwart took over from his old boss Gareth Ainsworth.

And Bloomfield, who played 558 times for the Adams Park club, would love to celebrate at Valley Parade by reaching the final.

Bloomfield has already won once in BD8 this season as Wycombe knocked a manager-less City out of the FA Cup on the weekend before Graham Alexander was appointed.

But he is braced for a difficult night against an in-form home side.

“We're expecting a really tough challenge, we know they've been in really good form recently,' he told the Daily Mail.

“They're a really good team who are well drilled, know their shape and the way they play. We know we'll have to be at our best to win the game.

“I want my boys to go out there and show themselves in the best light.”

Bloomfield has mixed experience of Wembley from his near two decades playing in Wycombe’s midfield.

He missed a penalty in the shoot-out when they lost the League Two play-off final to Southend in 2015.

But Bloomfield made up for that four years ago as he captained Wycombe to a 2-1 win over Oxford in the League One showpiece.

That earned the club promotion to the second tier for the first time in 133 years.

Wycombe are currently mid-table in League One and Saturday’s goalless stalemate with Oxford was their first clean sheet in 2024.

They have won five out of 11 games since the turn of the year, including an impressive 5-2 victory against Peterborough.

They made it to the last four in the Trophy with a 4-1 win over Brighton under-21s – in front of a home crowd of just 769.
