GRAHAM Alexander says Tyreik Wright possesses the versatility to fit into any City set-up.

Wright is back training with the squad today to kick-off his second loan spell.

His capture from Plymouth has immediately lifted the mood but some fans have questioned how he will fit into a system that is not using wingers.

Alexander, though, believes Wright can slot effectively into any formation they play.

He said: “We’ve played a front three which he suits and he’s played in a front two, which we’ve used as well. His attributes will be across that attacking frontline.

“He’s even been playing wing back at times for Plymouth– and we like to get our wing backs forward as well.

“He’s got what we need to win games of football and score goals and that’s what we’re trying to improve.

“We have to work with the guys already here to try and improve their output. But if we can bring in additions as well, it’s our responsibility to do the best for Bradford City.”

Alexander had been given rave reviews about Wright’s previous stint at Valley Parade and was caught up by Wright’s excitement about a possible return when they spoke for the first time.

“He obviously had a fantastic spell at Bradford prior to my time,” the City boss told the T&A.

“I’ve been speaking to (head of recruitment) Stephen Gent and (chief executive) Ryan (Sparks) about what I feel we need to add to our weaponry like a bit more pace in our frontline.

“Tyreik’s name was straight there with obviously the recent history of him and the club.

“When I spoke to him last week on the phone, he was so excited to come back in and help us. It was a no-brainer for us.”

Wright last played for Plymouth on November 28 and is keen to get back on the pitch as City prepare for the weekend home clash with Doncaster.

Alexander believes that hunger can only work in their favour.

“It’s been frustrating for Tyreik. He’ll be desperate to get his boots on and be part of it again.

“We saw it last week with the lads we brought into the team against Derby and the adrenaline rush and energy they brought to it. Tyreik will certainly bring that to us as well.

“We’ll see how he trains with the rest of the group today to see where he is. He hasn’t played much and hopefully he can be involved in some capacity at the weekend.”

Eight of those who featured in Wright’s final City appearance against Salford on New Year’s Day 2023 are still in the squad.

Alexander admitted it was an easy sell to bring him back and has already talked him through some of the changes he can expect this week.

“It was obviously under a different manager and different circumstances so it’s not always identical.

“I just wanted to explain to him how we do things, what we want to create and how we train so he had a real clear picture because things will have changed in the last year or so.

“You constantly have to prove yourself in football. It doesn’t really matter what you’ve done previously but what you are doing right now.

“But he’s certainly got the attributes, the ability and the motivation.

“He’ll know several of the lads, the majority of the squad. It hasn’t changed drastically in that time.

“It will make it easier for him to settle down and the players that did play with him will know what quality he does possess.”
