CARLISLE have confirmed they have had a bid for a player knocked back.

It is thought they may have been the League One side who made the latest offer for Jake Young.

City revealed that a second attempt had been made to sign the striker ahead of the Colchester game.

But again, it had fallen short of what they are looking for with a player who still has 18 months left on his contract with a club option of a further season on top of that.

Harry Lewis made his Carlisle debut in yesterday’s 3-1 home defeat to Oxford – the fourth signing of the window for the struggling Cumbrians.

And afterwards, Carlisle boss Paul Simpson admitted that they had failed with a bid for a fith.

“We had an offer that was turned down on Friday for a player,” Simpson told the News & Star.

“We didn't find out until later on – we were hoping that that would move quicker.

“Things are moving really slowly, I'll be honest with you. I would have liked to have moved things quicker. But they're not.

“We've got a few things that are ticking away. But it's really hard because you just don't know until you get the nod as to how quick it's going to be.

“But we're trying to get players in, we really are. I don't know whether there'll be anybody before Tuesday (when Carlisle play Barnsley).

“But we're going to do everything we possibly can to get them in before the end of January.”
