“SPECIAL, beyond special” – that was how TV described Alejandro Garnacho’s stunning overhead kick for Manchester United yesterday.

Sky’s esteemed commentator Peter Drury called it “one of the great goals” as the Argentine international’s thunderous strike sailed past Jordan Pickford at Everton.

The wonderful finish drew inevitable comparisons with an effort from Wayne Rooney in the Manchester derby 12 years earlier.

For any Bantams fans watching, it might have stirred memories of Stan Collymore’s debut dazzler against Leeds from Benito Carbone’s cross in the final Premiership season.

But older supporters may also recall something just as spectacular from Bruce Bannister against Barnsley in 1968.

Bannister netted 60 league goals in his six-year stint at Valley Parade – but none better than the Bradford End winner against the Tykes.

“Garnacho’s goal for Manchester United was good but Bruce’s winning goal from the edge of the area in the last minute was out of this world,” said reader Adam Walter.

“It was a wonderful strike that I still remember 55 years later! Simply the best goal I ever saw at Valley Parade.”

Adam also submitted a newspaper cutting of the goal taken from the Sunday Express as well as the programme cover.

And he would love to hear the memories from other fans who witness Bannister’s thunderbolt that day.
