DANNY Cowley has reportedly rejected the chance to become City’s next boss for “family reasons.”

BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter Ian Dennis, a Bantams fan, made the claim on Twitter this afternoon.

According to Dennis, Cowley performed a U-turn having agreed terms at the start of the week.

Former Huddersfield, Lincoln and Portsmouth boss Cowley has been the favourite with the bookies to succeed Mark Hughes in the Valley Parade hot-seat.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Tuesday night, the 45-year-old confirmed that he had been speaking to several clubs in recent weeks.

But he stressed that his next move had to be right for his family.

“Historically, it’s probably been about the career and trying to make the right decision for ourselves,” he said. “It’s always been about the football.

“My children are now a little bit older. Bella is 14 so she’s doing her GCSEs at the moment and all of this comes into your thinking.”

The suggestion that Cowley had been offered the post and then had a change of heart would tie in with the delay in City announcing a new manager.

It is understood they were hoping to unveil the new man this week in time for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Wycombe. That now looks to be unlikely as further interviews continue to take place.

Dean Holden, Graham Alexander and Leam Richardson are among the other names that have been touted for the vacancy.

The club have already confirmed that Mark Trueman will be in caretaker charge at the weekend after Kevin McDonald stepped away to focus on playing again.
