MIKE Williamson felt MK Dons missed the easier chances in their 4-1 win over City.

Williamson masterminded his club’s first victory for 10 games on his home debut in the dug-out.

The new boss was thrilled with their performance to blow a hole in City’s four-match unbeaten run under Kevin McDonald.

Williamson said: “The score reflected how the game played out.

“The boys were fantastic and played with so much energy. We created so many chances, which was really pleasing.

“We probably missed the easier chances and put away the harder ones. But that’s football.

“I’m sure throughout the game a lot of fans were thinking, ‘oh yeah, here we go, we’re going to get that sucker punch’.

“That’s the atmosphere and that’s what we’ve got to work through.

“We’ve got to understand and appreciate it but just focus on what we’re doing. The lads played it out very well and deserve that feeling.

“We’ve got an extremely talented, humble and hard-working group. It was a convincing result in the end.”

Williamson felt his side were not ruffled by Alex Gilliead’s equaliser against the run of play midway through the first half – responding with Jack Payne’s free-kick to restore the lead before the break.

“It’s just getting across every phase of the game,” he added. “From the first minute to the 95th, we’re trying to go about achieving a result.

“Nothing really changes. We’re not playing the scoreboard or the clock.”

Striker Max Dean was twice foiled by the woodwork before getting on the scoresheet with the third goal. Williamson was thrilled with the 19-year-old’s attitude.

“He was in our office reviewing his clips. That just shows the type of lad he is.

“You can see the output he gives. He’s a young lad but he’s a big character in the changing room.

“Before the game, we identified where we thought the overloads were going to be when the ball started from our goalkeeper.

“It was just a case of using our understanding to get the ball into dangerous positions. I thought the lads took that on well.”
