BRADFORD City Women currently sit fourth in the North East Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division.

They secured a good point at home to unbeaten South Shields on Sunday, the two sides drawing 1-1 at Horsfall.

Shields had won four and drawn one of their opening five league games, so went into the encounter as favourites, with the Bantams taking to the field after three victories and two defeats.

The visitors to BD6 went in front after 20 minutes through Zoe Norton, who had broken through the home backline.

City stopper Tiffany Whelan got a hand to Norton’s fierce strike, but was unable to prevent it finding the net.

Otherwise, the Bantams probably shaded proceedings, and only some brilliant defending and outstanding saves from Scarlett Gowans kept Shields in front.

The visitors began to get on top towards the end of the game and looked more likely to score the next goal.

But they failed to take the chances that came their way and they were punished in second-half stoppage-time.

City were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box, and Kanisha Underdown fired the ball home to the delight of her team-mates.

The Bantams face another big test this coming Sunday in the league, as they travel to third-placed Spennymoor Town.
