KEVIN McDonald has hailed Harry Lewis for his powers of recovery after his Tranmere blunder.

City’s number one has kept consecutive clean sheets to help McDonald to wins in both of his opening league games as caretaker boss.

Lewis denied Wimbledon’s James Tilley and Armani Little in the latest victory at the weekend as the Bantams moved into the top half of League Two.

It has been a strong comeback since the costly error just over a fortnight ago that gifted Tranmere a long-range goal in the defeat that saw Mark Hughes sacked.

Lewis did save a penalty later in that game and has been in fine form since McDonald took charge.

The keeper claimed 20 shut-outs last term and McDonald believes he is looking back to his best again.

"Harry was brilliant last season from what I can gather,” he said. “He's had a couple of mistakes this season but that’s probably testament to him as a person and as a player that he can bounce back and make good saves.

“He made one last week and again on Saturday. A good goalkeeper, good strikers, these things can go a long way.”

McDonald was impressed by the way Lewis commanded his box against a high-flying Wimbledon side who had not failed to score at home since April 1.

"We've spoken to him about starting positions and stuff like that and I thought he was spot on. He was last weekend as well.

"That only gives defence and midfield a domino effect all moving forward. He's good, the big man.”

City have had the chance to catch their breath without a game tonight – the only free midweek in a busy five-week schedule.

McDonald gave the players yesterday off as reward for winning three on the trot before making the most of his first opportunity to put on some proper practice sessions.

“It’s been hectic,” he admitted. “But it’s a time to work on certain elements and little things we weren’t happy with on Saturday or in the previous games.

“Because the games have come thick and fast, there’s been no time. So, we’ll have a couple of days rest and be good to go again.”
