TYLER Smith could join City’s list of injured strikers after pulling up in training.
Smith faces a late test for the Grimsby game on Saturday following the issue earlier in the week.
He was unable to train today and Mark Hughes said: “We’ll give him as long as he needs but at the moment he’s a doubt.
“Losing Tyler would be a blow but we’ve got options. We can look at different things.
“We probably haven’t got a real focal point like Cooky (Andy Cook) or Vadaine (Oliver). We’ll have to approach our forward play in a different way.
“But we’ve got good players at the top end of the pitch that can affect the game in different ways.”
Cook has missed the last two games and Hughes admitted the target man will be out for longer than than the “two-three weeks” that was initially thought when he injured his side against Crewe.
“The specialist doesn’t think it needs surgery, which was a big worry for everybody and obviously Andy himself,” added the City boss.
“That’s a good thing but he still needs a number of weeks to come back.
“But sometimes specialists and consultants err on the side of safety and pick out a random number. Given how Andy is feeling, he will be back sooner rather than later.”
City are also without Alex Pattison and Clarke Oduor. But Kevin McDonald took part in some of the session this morning and comes back into contention.
