BRADFORD City icon David Wetherall has already tasted life at Elland Road and Valley Parade, and now he is joining a third West Yorkshire footballing giant.
The towering centre-half has joined Huddersfield Town in the newly-created role of strategic advisor to the academy.
Wetherall famously netted the only goal in City’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in May 2000, which secured survival on the final day of the Premier League season.
That was the Sheffield-born man’s first full campaign at City, but he went on to play for them until 2008, making over 300 league appearances.
He also had two spells as caretaker manager, while he had spells as reserves and academy manager with the Bantams.
After leaving City, Wetherall served in the highest position within the EFL’s academy setup as director of youth development for over 12 years, leading on the league’s strategy in deploying the Elite Player Performance Plan framework at league and club level upon its inception in October 2011.
Now 52, Wetherall has been brought in by Huddersfield to work with academy manager Jon Worthington, as the club begins the process of upgrading to a Category 3 Academy under the EPPP framework.
