JAKE Young has enjoyed a flying start to loan life at Swindon.

While Andy Cook still waits to get off the mark, former team-mate Young is up to three goals already for City’s League Two rivals after scoring twice in Saturday’s crazy 5-5 draw at Wrexham.

The striker also claimed two assists in a wild game that saw the home side net two in added time to grab a point.

Young, who still has another year after this one on his Bantams contract, has been an instant hit with Swindon.

After a difficult first season at Valley Parade, which saw him spend half of that on loan at Barrow without success, the 22-year-old is eager to make up for lost time.

Mark Hughes made it clear during the summer that Young was not in his plans.

He was not involved in the training camp in Spain and his only pre-season action was playing for one half against Bradford (Park Avenue).

Having rejected a couple of loans, understood to be from National League clubs, Young snapped up the chance to stay in the division with Swindon.

Boss Michael Flynn feels Young has the talent to go further and will get better with the more games he plays.

“He’s another one who’s not up to full fitness,” the ex-City skipper told our sister paper, the Swindon Advertiser. “He is lively.

“He’s a very, very good talent, and the sharper and fitter we get him, the better he’s going to be.

“If he gets his head down and works hard, he has got the ability to play at a higher level.”

Despite his double in north Wales, Young was hugely frustrated at seeing the win ripped from their grasp in stoppage time.

He said: “There were individual errors, and we know personally what each one of us has done wrong.

"I think we can improve on ourselves as a team and take the good bits as there were plenty of them.

“Conceding five is unacceptable. Once the dust settles, we have to learn from what happened.

“We’re going to come back stronger and take what we need from it.”
