BULLS’ interim head coach Lee Greenwood has talked about the need to appreciate each player’s personal backstory, as Sunday’s Father's Day clash against Halifax was tinged with poignancy.

Before the game, the stadium announcer confirmed that winger David Foggin-Johnston was playing in memory of his grandad, who had passed away earlier in the week.

Foggin-Johnston was unlucky not to score, a flying try in the corner early on disallowed due to a forward pass, but he played his part in the 22-22 draw, despite the difficult circumstances.

Reflecting after the game, Greenwood said: “Life is generally more open than it used to be, and people are happy to share those things with you.

“It’s good to know and be aware of it, so you can keep an eye on people.

“There’ll be all sorts of stories in our dressing room, some people won’t have shared stuff that will be close to them.

“With it being Father’s Day, you saw some players walk out with their children, but others couldn’t because they weren’t here with them.

“Some people might not have their father still around either, so there are all sorts of stories on the pitch from everybody.

“That’s sport in general and if that gives players an extra reason to perform well, then good for them.”
