LEE Greenwood has virtually ruled himself out of taking the Bulls head coaching role on a permanent basis, insisting the new man at the helm has to be full-time.

For now, he and club legend Brian Noble are fully focused on snapping Bradford’s current three-game losing streak on Sunday, when Swinton are the visitors to Odsal.

Interim boss Greenwood, who took over from departing head coach Mark Dunning on Monday, told the T&A: “I took a job away from the sport around a year ago which I won’t be giving up, so taking this on full-time is not a priority.

“Rugby league is a volatile, cut-throat industry and unfortunately the salary’s not enough to put your livelihood into it, certainly at this level.

“I think given the size of this club, and the aspirations it has, the next coach needs to be full-time and I can’t commit to that.

“But as long as the club needs me interim charge alongside Brian, I’m happy to do that role.

“This club has so much potential and I still want to be part of it going forward, but I only intend to stay on a part-time basis.”

In the meantime, Greenwood can surely only benefit from having Noble, who led Bradford to three Super League Grand Final triumphs between 2001 and 2005, alongside him for Sunday’s Betfred Championship clash against Swinton.

He said: “It took me by surprise to be taking over, and there were lots of things I wasn’t in charge of that I’ve now taken over since Monday.

“But myself and the club are fortunate that Brian has been here for a while as an advisor, who’s just there to come and help out if needed.

“The players are fortunate to be able to lean on the experience Brian has too and when the two of us have spoken to the team, we’ve told them that the short-term focus is just to get a result on Sunday.

“The priority longer term is that the team need to produce on a regular basis, and the club will now go through a process when weighing up who’ll make the best head coach going forward.

“But the priority for Brian and I is just this week.”

Asked whether the likes of Keven Appo, Ben Blackmore and Tom Holmes might return from injury this Sunday or if any players would come in on loan or dual-registration, Greenwood admitted: “I’m not sure who I can rule in yet.

“Being the assistant, I wasn’t involved in the day-to-day chats with the physio or conversations around loans and dual-registration.

“I’ve packed what I can in since Monday, and though some of the lads who’ve been out injured were out on the field on Tuesday night, not all of them were able to do everything.

“We’ll see who’s capable of what in Thursday’s session too, but there’s a good chance it will take until Saturday before we know who’s definitely available.”
