BULLS may look to bring in a new signing before the Keighley derby as cover for Bodene Thompson.

The New Zealander is “touch and go” for the Cougar Park clash next weekend after his recent concussion issues.

The Bulls vice-captain was again not involved in Sunday’s win over Sheffield and Mark Dunning admitted he is unsure whether to expect Thompson back in the ranks to face their neighbours.

That could mean a fresh face arriving in the next few days.

Dunning said: “Bodene will be touch and go. He had a head knock and it’s his second one in two weeks and third one in the last 10 months.

“The last thing anybody at this club is going to do is risk somebody that’s had a potential head injury.

“We’ll take our time with him. If he’s ready, fantastic, and he’ll be welcomed back into the group.

“If he’s not, we’ll go without and may have to dip into the transfer market this week.

“We’ve got a few things bubbling away in the background and one or two of them might come off.”

Dunning confirmed that former Salford and Hull FC back row Jansin Turgut is also in his thoughts.

Turgut is on trial with the Bulls and played for the reserves against Hull at the weekend.

The 27-year-old is looking to resurrect his career after recovering from a suicide attempt in 2019. Turgut fell from a car park in Ibiza and suffered life-threatening injuries to his legs, spine and face.

He was cleared to return to the game 18 months ago and has since been playing for West Hull amateurs and the Turkey national team.

Dunning said: “I’ve known of Jansin for a while. I think everybody has read in the press about what went on in his life.

“He got my number and gave me a call a few weeks ago and we had a really good chat. I invited him in and showed him round Tong.

“He’s a really nice bloke and he’s got a real genuine desire after what he’s been through to get back on the field. He has demonstrated that in abundance.

“There are plenty out there who want to come here.

“We’ve got to be really diligent as we’ve been all pre-season and look at the right people to fit this group.

“People like Jansin in the reserves have done themselves no harm whatsoever.”
