TEENAGER Dylan Youmbi is making his mark in City’s training - on the hands of the keepers.

Last season’s under-19s top scorer was the 19th man for the trip to Newport over the weekend.

Youmbi, who recently returned from a loan spell with Stocksbridge Park Steels in the Northern Premier League, was invited along by Mark Hughes as a reward for his progress.

The striker has stepped up to join in with the senior squad in training - and has made quite the impression according to the City boss.

Hughes said: “He’s got a fantastic shot on him, a great strike, and I don’t think the keepers like it when we bring Dylan up to join in because he stings their hands!

“He’s going to be with us next year and he’s progressing well.

“It was brilliant for Dylan (to travel with the first team). He came on merit because he’s been doing really well.

“He obviously went out on loan but didn’t get as much game time as we wanted.

“We’ve seen a lot of him in training. He comes in and joins in with the seniors and doesn’t let anybody down.

“He doesn’t affect the level of training - in fact he enhances it at times, certainly in the finishing area.”

Youmbi was one of nine youngsters to be handed their first pro contracts last summer. Hughes sees the overnight trip with the senior squad as a small step on the ladder.

“Dylan just gets the taste of what it’s about. It’s the next stage of his career.

“Hopefully he’ll have a good career and progress. So, these moments are special for him.”
