An investigation has been launched after Whitehaven's team bus was attacked as it travelled back from Bradford.
The Whitehaven RLFC team were returning home after playing Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium.
The opening round of the Championship began with a 24-8 defeat to the Bulls.
But as the team headed home via the M61, an object was thrown from the motorway bridge around the Junction 4 exit, near Westhoughton.
The object smashed through the roof’s emergency exit.
No one was harmed during the incident, a spokesperson for Whitehaven RLFC confirmed.
The team’s driver pulled the bus over shortly after and the incident was reported to the relevant authorities.
