BRADFORD Bulls have waved goodbye to winger Ryan Millar.

The speedy Millar only joined Bulls ahead of the 2022 season, but he has departed Odsal to link up with his former head coach John Kear at Widnes Vikings.

The former Sheffield Eagles star was a key figure for the South Yorkshire side when they humiliated Bulls on the opening day of the 2021 Championship season, scoring a late try in a 50-12 win.

Kear obviously liked what he saw that day, and eventually signed the German-born 28-year-old last October on a two-year deal.

Bulls had talked about a revamp ahead of the 2023 Championship campaign, after a poor 2022 season, but it may surprise some that Millar has departed with one year left on his contract at Odsal.

While admitting himself that he would have liked to have performed better for the club back in August, he still managed eight tries in 21 appearances, including seven in 19 in the league, to finish as Bulls' second-top try scorer of the year behind centre Kieran Gill.

But he will not be adding to that tally next season, after making that premature move to the Vikings, against whom he scored a brace in Bulls' 31-6 victory at the DCBL Stadium back in June.

Like ninth-placed Bulls, Widnes will be hoping for a better season in 2023, after only managing to finish eighth in 2022, a massive 12 points outside of the play-off places.

Millar's first club Sheffield finished just above the pair in seventh, and that is where the winger really made his name.

A product of their academy system, he made his first-team debut for the club just after turning 21, in June 2015 in a 22-14 win at London Broncos.

He was a key figure in the Eagles side that lifted the inaugural 1895 Cup back in 2019, as Sheffield beat his new side Widnes 36-18 in the final at Wembley.

Millar totalled 111 appearances for Sheffield during his seven seasons in the first team, racking up an impressive 54 tries.
