SCOTT Banks is set to return to the Bantams beat as they bid to clinch Papa Johns Trophy qualification at Burton tonight.

The on-loan Crystal Palace winger has missed the last four games with a calf strain.

But Mark Hughes believes he is over that now and is poised to throw the Scot back into action at the Pirelli Stadium.

“He has trained for a week and this game is probably perfect for him,” said the City boss.

“He will be available and he’s had some good training. He’s ready to go.”

Banks, who scored with a free-kick in his last outing against Wimbledon, travelled with the squad to Salford.

He was not involved in the 18 but took part in a fitness session with Kian Harratt and Luke Hendrie on the pitch beforehand.

Banks admits he is loving the spotlight and expectation from his first loan in English football.

“It’s given me the chance to play in front of big crowds, show that I can perform and produce goals, assists and deliver performances in the Football League,” he told the South London Press.

“It’s massive for me in my career. I needed to play some league football – to get that physical challenge.

“We want to get promotion and with the talent in this squad, we have a real shot at it.

“I have made a great start but I’m nowhere near the Premier League, by any means.

“It’s the pressure to produce what I have done at under-23 level. The Scottish loans were brilliant for me – learning the style of play and getting minutes in league football.

“But this is the season where I have to go and show I can produce at this level.”

Burton are already through to the knock-out stages of the Trophy after two wins.

The Bantams are currently second in northern group H but need a point to make sure after Leicester under-21s took the bonus in the penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw at Valley Parade a fortnight ago.

Hughes, who will shuffle the pack again, is targeting a win over the League One side to top the group and ensure a home draw.

He said: “It was a big effort on Saturday and there will be a few changes.

“But I’ve got complete confidence in all the guys. Whatever team I do put out, I expect them to hopefully win the game.

“The bare minimum is a good performance and I’ve got guys that can do that for us.

“It will be a different test and we’ll have to be on it against a team from a higher league. It will have to be a good performance to get the points we need to be able to progress.

“It’s an important competition for us and something we want to be involved in. So hopefully we can get the job done.”

Alex Gilliead could also feature after being left out at the weekend following the birth of his child.

“Gilly should be okay,” added Hughes. “His girlfriend has had the baby and he needed to be with her last week.

“We wish them well and hopefully Alex will be back in contention.”

Burton boss Dino Maamria said: “I know we have already qualified for the next stage, and I know some players need some minutes and others I need to manage but I will still put a team out to try and win the game because I like winning habits."

The game kicks off at 7pm - the same time as Leicester take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
