LEE Angol is knocking loudly on the door for a City recall, Mark Hughes revealed.

The striker has not been in the first 11 since starting five of the first six league games - the last time in the goalless draw with Crewe at the end of August.

But he has made a real impact coming off the bench for the last half hour of City’s two most recent outings.

Angol helped the Bantams fight back to claim a stoppage-time draw against Wimbledon and then laid on Tyreik Wright’s weekend winner at Harrogate with a superb through ball.

Angol made a difference coming on in the number 10 role with his hold-up play and Hughes admits he is staking a claim for a bigger opportunity again.

The City boss said: “Lee, with his back to goal, is arguably our most effective player in terms of retaining possession and using his body well.

“When he comes on as a sub, it’s usually when I feel we’re losing a bit of control and need to get more possession of the ball.

He’s able to do that for us. It’s a good thing that he does in games.

“He’s clearly making a statement. Maybe in the next few weeks if he continues in the same vein of form he will be a strong call to start games - he’s playing well enough.”
